New Office, New Job, New Jay

I’m Sharing an Office

First off, it’s been too long since I’ve posted anything. For as much as I would like to use the proverbial excuse, “I’ve been too busy” it’s really not fair. The point of this blog was for me to share the happenings in my life, so that people can stay “up-to-date” on the whimsical world of Jay, so the busier I get, the more I should post. In other words, if I have time to make a coconut ice-cream milkshake, then I should have the time to write.

After a rejuvenating two week trip home to Michigan, I returned to L.A. determined to make more things happen. It’s been a year since I moved out here, so I might as well learn from my mistakes and achievements and make this the official start to year two, which began with getting a membership to a shared office in Santa Monica. How convenient to be writing about this, since I’m currently sitting in the office. I like the joint. It’s got all the expected “creative space” novelties, such as clocks set to the time zones of major cities. This was really lacking in my life. Before, it took me hours to find out what time it is in Hong Kong, which would then lead me to a much later time that I originally wanted. In the office’s defense, there aren’t any bean bags.

natureJust thought I’d share this Gustav Klimt beauty.

Though I tease, and bemoan the music they’re currently playing, which sounds like someone’s ringtone from 2002, the office has been a positive thing in my life. As my Producer boss continues to work on financing in London, I was withering away do to lack of human interaction. The shared office is filled with creative looking people, and located in the lovely city of Santa Monica, so I’m finally blossoming into the social flower I always knew I was.

The best thing of all is that it lead me to a new part-time job with an awesome environmental company. Now I can say I make movies and save the environment; I’m a real George Clooney!

My First Start-Up: Planet Experts LLC

Planet Experts is an environmental start-up located in Santa Monica that works, in my opinion, as one big classroom where all the top environmental scientist and activists teach the world about their latest findings. It publishes high-quality articles, and makes sure its experts are actually experts. Here’s how Planet Experts’ twitter bio describes its operation (follow us: @planetexperts):

“Planet Experts is an environmental news & social media website that directly connects scientists, activists and innovators to a worldwide audience.”

My task is to help Planet Experts grow its community through social media. Our desire is to be the go-to website for people who share environmental news and articles. That being said, join our site and contribute what you know. Whether you’re an expert, activist, green company, or just a concerned citizen, we want you contributing and interacting in our community.

I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to contribute my skills and talents to a cause I’m passionate about. It was my goal to work in both the film and environmental industries and California has awarded me the opportunity to do so.
